BLUE TALON BISTRO

We did grab lunch while at Colonial Williamsburg but nothing like dinner at the Blue Talon Bistro. I had Fried Frogs Legs as an appetizer and the Lamb Shank as my entree. Our host, Linda Stanier from Williamsburg tourism chose the Mac & Cheese, Nancy opted for the Meatloaf and Barb had a hamburger with a fried egg on top. There was a delicious Burnt Sugar Ice Cream but nothing could have been more chocolate than the CHOCOLATE NOISETTE, a sliced chilled terrine of chocolate flourless cake layered with Ganache over Amaretto Sabayon. Chef/owner David Everett is responsible for all.

The location has a great little shopping area that includes The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg and Smithfield Ham Shoppe. You can sample a variety of Virginia grown peanuts, cross the street and sample a bit of the ham.

It appears that Esther discovered some animal crackers and thought they might have been for her. The animal crackers back in June of 2009 had been attempting to commit suicide in Provincetown, MA but somehow made their way to Williamsburg, VA.

COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG CONTINUED

The newly opened R. Charlton's Coffeehouse is the first major building Colonial Williamsburg has reconstructed on Duke of Gloucester Street in 50 years. It was the gathering place for the political and social elite...men that is. There are rooms on the second floor that were rented out or used for the coffee-housekeepers bedchambers or you know what. The talk about the coffeehouse included having a cup of either coffee or a hot cocoa made in those days. A bit on the bitter side and that was fine for me.

They have a daily Revolutionary City Program that takes you to different venues. For instance this day's event focused on Building A Nation. It began with The Revolution Takes Center Stage (in front of the Raleigh Tavern) to That Freedom Ain't For Me (coffeehouse backyard), Lady Washington Visits the Capitol (Capitol, South Side), They Rod and Thy Staff (coffeehouse backyard)and concluding with Looking Forward: A Founding Father Envisions the Future of the American Republic (in front of the Raleigh Tavern).

We later stopped at the stockades and took a side trip to see the college of William and Mary.

I interviewed Martha Dandridge Custis Washington, the wife of George Washington and Women's Rights Advocate Hannah Lee Corbin for my radio show. After the interview of their characters, I interviewed the actors who portrayed them.

COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG: THE COSTUMES

Nancy and Barb joined me as I begin my tour of Colonial Williamsburg with the Costume Design Center. I got a full tour of the various character costumes and how they made. Each "actor" gets and allotment of 45 pieces to include accessories. The Design Center also takes care of the cleaning as well. Some special costumes were shown to us as well.

Afterward, they set up a custom costume for me. I never knew that the word "stay" had more than one meaning.
