RIVERWALK RESTAURANT

Although the Segway tour did not give us the feeling of exertion, we were a bit hungry. Riverwalk Restaurant had a great menu and view of the Coleman Memorial Bridge. It was also conveniently located at Riverwalk Landing, where the Segway tour has it's shop. We dined at the Riverfront Dining Room.

I had the She-Crab Soup and Nancy opted for the Lobster Bisque. We all had various forms of their famous Crab Cakes. Check them out at www.riverwalkrestaurant.net

SEGWAY TOUR THROUGH YORKTOWN

What better way to see the historic downtown Yorktown sites than taking a Segway tour. Patriot Tours & Provisions just recently started these Segway tours and we were the first group to have an official tour. Randy and Jill Pryor are the owners and it was Randy that gave the lesson and tour guide for Nancy Kozicki, Barbara Coletta, Linda Stanier (from tourism) and myself. I was the only one who had ever been on a Segway and the other three took to it very easily. Nancy even took photos along the way.

The tour was around the water area of Yorktown versus the Yorktown Settlement, which came later on. Many of the streets are closed to cars so it was easy taking the sidewalks and other accessible areas.

HOG WILD SMOKEHOUSE

Having had enough beer, dinner was in order at Hog Wild Smokehouse in the town of Toano. Traditional smokehouse barbeque and authentic Creole cuisine are offered on a varied, but focused menu. Featuring freshly prepared soups, salads, appetizers, sandwiches and entrees, with five house made barbeque sauces to suit every taste. We actually ate in a sensible manner rather than pig out. I had Beef Brisket with cheesy corn muffins and collard greens. Nancy, Barb and Linda opted for sandwiches with pork. Linda had the Key Lime Tart for dessert while Nancy and I shared this very chocolate cake. Good...but no way near the flourless cake we had the other night. The food, by the way was really good!

Back at the timeshare where Nancy, Barb and I were staying, it was time to set up for my internet radio show. Thanks to Barb I had some photo collages and the necessary digitally recorded interviews loaded up. Linda called into the show to co-host.

BLUE TALON BISTRO

We did grab lunch while at Colonial Williamsburg but nothing like dinner at the Blue Talon Bistro. I had Fried Frogs Legs as an appetizer and the Lamb Shank as my entree. Our host, Linda Stanier from Williamsburg tourism chose the Mac & Cheese, Nancy opted for the Meatloaf and Barb had a hamburger with a fried egg on top. There was a delicious Burnt Sugar Ice Cream but nothing could have been more chocolate than the CHOCOLATE NOISETTE, a sliced chilled terrine of chocolate flourless cake layered with Ganache over Amaretto Sabayon. Chef/owner David Everett is responsible for all.

The location has a great little shopping area that includes The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg and Smithfield Ham Shoppe. You can sample a variety of Virginia grown peanuts, cross the street and sample a bit of the ham.

It appears that Esther discovered some animal crackers and thought they might have been for her. The animal crackers back in June of 2009 had been attempting to commit suicide in Provincetown, MA but somehow made their way to Williamsburg, VA.
