Shreveport Saga: The Day Continues

Would you believe that since the person who finds the baby has to buy another cake did so? We were actually wondering how many cakes would have to be bought and eaten before we left the table. Then again, perhaps a whole betting system can come about to place money on who they think will get the baby. Now, if you think it wasn't bad enough to have had one cake with a cream cheese and praline filling and another with a cream cheese and cherry filling....it's time for lunch!!!! Break in the action as we went to this art and garden place (can't remember the name). We saw one big gallery and the garden Conservatory. Esther just loved looking at the koi. You could also view part of the Boardwalk across the way in Bossier. Drove around a bit before lunch.I took pictures of some of the other murals and some more scenery in Shreveport before heading to Bistro Byronz.

Some appetizers were placed out and I ordered a sandwich with roast beef, provolone, sauteed red onions and a horseradish dressing. The sandwich came with a "side" of Pasta Zydeco.

Shreveport Saga: King Cake

King Cakes are the thing going for Mardi Gras. These cakes basically look like a coffee cake with colored sugar on the top. Some places use a recipe that is more like a bread and some make it like a cake. I was at Julie Anne's where Gary Galle took us in the kitchen to view the process. I loved there's due to the cake itself and the cream cheese frosting inside and on top. All King Cakes have a small plastic baby hidden. The person who gets the slice with the baby has to buy the next cake...so long as they haven't choked on it and left the earth. The origin of this is that the baby represented baby Jesus. However, I haven't heard anyone yell, "Jesus Christ. I think I might have swollowed the baby!" Actually, the cake was so good that the person who found the baby licked every morsel from it.

It's time for dinner! We dined at Wine Country Bistro.

Shreveport Saga: Pep Rally and Float Loading Party

Being that the New Orleans Saints were playing in the Superbowl, most likely every city was having some pep rally or such.



Since we were really down here in Shreveport for the Mardi Gras, we had the opportunity to go to a Float Loading Party. We are able to climb up on some as well as get medallion beads from many of the floats. Drinks were "floating" and I had two jello shots. Esther was able to get up on the float and danced to the constant upbeat music. The public was invited and the set up was a row of "rooms" with floats lined up for you to walk around. A great time was had.

Shreveport Saga: Sci-Port and Hotel

From there we went to a place called Sci-Port a hands-on science center that has an IMAX movie theatre and planetarium. Great views from the terrace and location is right on the waterfront...where we will return for other events. Esther enjoyed her conversation with one of the turtles. I later found out that they were taking bets on the Superbowl and that the turtle heard that Esther's relative is on the front of one of the Mardi Gras floats.

It's now time to check into the hotel. We were staying at Best Western Chateau. Good location...close to most of the places that we went to. Now, I must make fun of the bathroom. The tub is so deep that I really could have used a step stool to get in and out. The shower system required each room to have a set up instructions. Mine said that I should turn one of the doo dads to the left. I kept on turning all of the doo dads until I finally turned the one I thought I should have turned...to the right...that worked. The problem is that they also need a diagram to explain what each of these doo dads are.

Shreveport Saga: Robinson Film Center

It was on to Robinson Film Center. Really cool place. They have two movie theatres: one that seats about 50 and the other more than twice that. The center doesn't show first run movies, but may have them later on. Artsy movies...Basically the ones you won't most likely view at Regal Cinemas. There are event spaces, a cafe and many "museum" things to view such as a gun used in a movie or a costume warn by one of the stars. I'll continue later with this when we returned to "party" and watch the Superbowl.

Shreveport Saga Artspace

We met up with other writers and were off to a place called ArtSpace, where we had lunch. There is a tale about this church's steeple that fell off due to the wind and landing on someone. We think, perhaps, that Esther actually ate it. The movie Factory Girl was filmed here.
